Friends and Family Tour 2017
Dumont IA cont. On Sunday,
we went to the church with the Wolf’s.
They were the greeters so we went early and had the opportunity to meet
many of their friends. After the service
started, I looked across the pew and saw Kurt sitting with his 1 ½ year old granddaughter,
Lena. Lena and I would become very good
friends later in the week.
That afternoon we went to a play at the theater in Hampton
featuring a local presentation of Sex, Lies, and the IRS. It was very funny and very well done. One thing I learned was Kurt can consume a
lot of popcorn. That evening, Lena came
over with her family, Mike, Katie and Garret, and we had a great dinner. Its good I was fed well because
little did I know what Kurt had in store for me on Monday morning.
A Disc Ripper is an implement that is used to till the soil
after the corn is harvested. In the
front are discs that need to be periodically changed and Kurt’s ripper needed
the discs on the front changed. A lot of
hard heavy work. After we got the JD 620
started Kurt hooked up the ripper backed it into the work shop.
About 5 hours later we were finished.
The only break we took was about 45 minutes to go to the JD dealer for
parts. It was a good day’s work and I
enjoyed helping. By the way, the JD Dealer has free popcorn.
That evening we golfed 9 holes with Kurt’s son in law. Well, Jamie golfed while Kurt and I hacked our
way down the fairways. It’s a good thing
we had beer!
The next day Kurt was a little nicer to us and loaned us a 4 wheeler to ride around. GA and I spent several hours riding over the countryside. We managed to find our way over to the farm and GA got to meet my new pig friends. The farm is where Kurt grew up and his mother Donna lives there. She and GA had lots in common with talking about her plants and house.
