Friends and Family Tour 2017
HERE AND THERE Since we left Temperance River, we spent one
night in Duluth right on the harbor. It
was within easy walking distance to the Lake Walk where we had a nice Italian dinner. From there we stopped in to see our next door
neighbors from Florida, Ken and Diane. Again,
we were treated like royalty, met many of their friends and enjoyed the company
and the area. They took us on a ride to
Stillwater, a quaint town that had a new bridge. Coincidently, we heard the dedication of the
bridge on the radio which didn’t mean anything to us at the time but we
actually got to drive across when we left.
We then made our report to Ken that it was safe to cross and wasn’t
about to collapse.
Our next stop was at the Ho Chunk
Casino at the Wisconsin Dells. We did
some sightseeing there but not as much as we originally planned. And of course, we tried our hand in the
casino but we may as well just thrown our money off the bridge in
Stillwater. The Tribe there did have an
hour show in their native dress, demonstrating their culture and performing
their native song and dance. It was
quite impressive and informative.
Back to Ottawa for a couple days
with Maureen and then off to the RV park at the Hollywood Casino in Joliet
where again we should have thrown our money in to the Des Plains River. It was good to have a few days of down time
so we could prepare for the weekend that was about to happen.
CHICAGO – On Friday afternoon,
Jenna picked us up at the RV Park and we went to Becky and Damion’s house. We had tickets for the Billy Joel concert at
Wrigley Field that night. After gorging
ourselves on Lou Malnotti Pizza, we took a Lyft to Wrigley. Billy Joel started around 8:20 and went non
stop for 2 ½ hours. We knew all the
songs and he did them pretty much the way they were recorded. It was a great concert experience. The next day, Becky and Damion had their
annual get together with their friends at Arlington Race Track where the
Arlington Million was to be run. They had
commandeered a couple picnic tables near the track and managed to smuggle in
some contraband refreshments. It was
good to again see some of the people we met and got to know at their wedding. We were there most of the day and again, I should
have wrapped my money in hay and fed it to the horses rather than place any bets. But, it sure makes the race more interesting. B&D returned us Sunday afternoon and
after a late lunch and checking out our RV, they went home. It sure was an active weekend and we are
looking forward to a couple down days before we head to Missouri to watch the
total eclipse of the sun with Georgann’s sister Jayne and her fiancée Bill.
See Ya Out There
Sounds like a great trip. B Joel would be A! concert to see. Talked about Eagles in New Jersey but didn't have the nerve to try it. Another day in retirement land here. Good friend (Norm) has cancer; going to seal driveway; grilled cheese for lunch. Don't get no better.
